Dr Lisa Briggs has a strong interest in sport related injuries, having worked with and assisted numerous ALF, Rugby Union and national basketball teams. Lisa has been able to enhance and complement her approach to Osteopathy by offering each and every patient individualised advice on exercise rehabilitation and lifestyle factors for long-term pain relief. Currently working as an assistant lecturer at RMIT she has expertise in co-ordinating and implementing hydrotherapy and pilates programs, the treatment of pregnant women, young children and adolescents.

WHAT DO OSTEOPATHS DO?
Overall, Osteopaths address imbalances, which are compromising your ability to achieve optimal health. We place a large emphasis on determining where your problem is coming from and then help you to identify the factors potentially contributing to your pain.
Osteopaths simply act as the facilitator, by 'nudging' the body to function with complete balance from head to toe. It is therefore not uncommon for multiple areas of the body to be treated, including those away from the site of pain.
Osteopaths often refer and work in conjunction with other health care professionals as well as provide specific and basic exercises where appropriate.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A CONSULTATION
Initial consultations will involve an extensive case history, medical history and past history. This enables the Osteopath to fully consider all areas of your life that may be impacting your current state for example:
Other medical conditions
Previous injuries, accidents or surgeries
Stress
Psychological factors
Nutrition factors
Exercise
This is preceded by postural and biomechanical examinations along with orthopaedic/neurological testing when required. A diagnosis will then be provided and a treatment will follow with techniques including:
Soft tissue techniques
Stretching techniques
Gentle joint mobilisation and manipulation
Balancing techniques of ligaments and muscles
Muscle energy techniques
Myofascial release
Ultrasound
